David Ramón Zayas

David Ramón Zayas (he/him) is a playwright, director, and actor in central Pennsylvania. David is originally from metro Detroit, where he began his professional theatre work. His play, I Don’t Speak Spanish, is taught in university literature courses. Other recent produced works include The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (winner - Best New Play/Musical, Central PA Broadway World 2022), as well as multiple “Choose Your Own Plays,” which feature an original, interactive game-like system of audience voting and limited lives. CYOP titles include Curse of the Werewolf, Hijacked!, and Space Vampire. He was a Dramatist Guild National Playwriting Fellowship semi-finalist in 2023. He has written vocal music for several professional theatre productions and taught theatre to hundreds of students between 2007 and 2015. He was a founding member of the Stage Door Series Ensemble (2010 - 2022) as well as a Core Company Member (2009 - 2013) with Gamut Theatre Group in Harrisburg, PA, where he lives with his husband, Jeff, and their pets. Outside of the theatre, he is a Credentialed Advocate for victims of crime including domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse; a calling that informs his writing.

He is a member of the Dramatists Guild and Latinx Playwrights Circle.
