The Playwright
David Ramón Zayas
David Ramón Zayas (he/him) is a playwright, director, and actor in central Pennsylvania. David is originally from metro Detroit, where he began his professional theatre work. Playwriting credits include I Don't Speak Spanish, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, BEOWULF, Southern Gothic, as well as Choose Your Own Play: Space Vampire and Choose Your Own Play: Hijacked!--which featured an original, interactive game-like system of audience voting and limited lives. As a composer, he’s written vocal music for The Legend of Sleepy Hollow as well as productions of Pericles: Prince of Tyre, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Snow White (Gamut Theatre Group), and Down All The Days (Eastern Michigan University). He has taught theatre to hundreds of students and was a founding member of the Stage Door Series Ensemble (2010 - 2022) with Gamut Theatre Group in Harrisburg, PA, where he lives with his husband and their pets. He studied theatre and linguistics while a student at Eastern Michigan University. Outside of the theatre, he works as an advocate for victims of Domestic Violence, sexual assault, and child abuse; a calling that informs his writing.
